Fun Ways to Virtually Connect with Friends and Family

Staying at home might be necessary, but it does not have to be boring or isolating! You’ve heard of virtual happy hour and virtual paint nights. Here are some fresh ideas for all ages that can bring fun and connection into social distancing and staying at home.

Give a “House Tour”

We watch strangers’s (aka celebrities and Youtubers) home tours but what about getting to know your friend’s home better?

Invite friends to…

  1. Share a part of their home that they love but that is usually not noticeable to friends. Do they have a new favorite kitchen appliance? What about their home makes staying home just a little bit easier?

  2. If you know their home inside out, invite them to decorate a corner of their home (you do this as well) and then virtually share each other's creations!

Virtual Dance Party or Challenge them to a Lip Syncing Competition

Pick a time, get online and dance it out together! Or challenge you friends to create a short lip syncing video and email it out to each other for fun! If watching Jimmy Fallon’s game is entertaining, imagine how much fun it would be to see your friends do this!

Virtual Book Readings

Stories.audible.com is sharing free kid stories right now which is great! You can also set up a time, pick a book and read it with some of your friends.

FaceTime Work Out Sesh

I can’t be the only one who is struggling to keep my body moving during this time. Having a set time that I know I will be Skyping my friend for a virtual workout session helps me feel motivated. We decided on the amount of time, one of us turned on some 80s tunes, and we each did our own workout. Getting the occasion “you’re doing great!” and briefly chatting at the end makes working out much better.

Plan a Virtual “Camping” Trip

Set a date for an indoor camping trip. Each person/house builds a fort for themselves, gathers snacks/beverages, and then do a virtual hangout showing off their fort and telling ghost stories, jokes, camping/hiking/traveling stories, whatever topic you wish!

Have a Virtual Game Night

If you have a smart phone, you can download the Houseparty app and connect with your friends and family virtually. Chat, laugh, and play a variety of games together!

Don’t forget to engage with your pets!

Teach your dog a new trick. Or build your cat a maze out of old t-shirt strips! Check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tKS5AQsGIU
